The river is up and up and up! It rained here all night (very hard) and rained hard on Friday night. There is good news and bad news for all of us ready to fish on a more regular basis. The bad news is this kind of rain accelerates and exacerbates the snow melt at higher altitudes. Last night the weather people on the network were calling for snow levels of 5,000 feet.
Much of the Yakima drainage is below 5,000 feet, so assume this rain is killing off the snow and ice pretty fast and the runoff is severe. So as bad news goes, the weather is making this blowout worse.
Here is the good news. With this kind of rain, there will be a lot less snow and ice to melt as it warms up after the rain. I am assuming it will eventually warm up.
Here is more bad news – no fishing today!
